This past weekend I had the pleasure of being a country folk.
Sam is house-sitting for his family out in Watkinsville and I came over for a couple days to spend time with him, make sure he wasn't going crazy, and (ultimately) to play with their dog Kip.
Being a country folk is fun.
I got to help take care of the horses. I did not scoop the poop in the stalls, but I did get to hold a stick-whacker while Sam tossed hay around the field. Apparently horses get pushy when you've got their sweet sweet hay ready for disposal. I didn't really use the stick. I guess the horses weren't pushy that day. Or ever.
I also got to help mix foods for the old mares who were in a separate part of the pasture.
(I just used the word pasture!)
Then I would go out and call them to come. Maggie and Casey would walk towards me steadily but without stopping and I had to make sure they got their right mixes.
Example: I was holding Casey's food mix and Maggie started walking in on me. I didn't want to get whacked in the head by a ginormous horse, so I started stepping back until Sam was able to come in with Maggie's food mix.
Yay!
The next country thing I did was totally redneck! Sam drove me on an ATV around this loop of road. It scared the SHIT out of me. I kept holding on to him for dear life because I was worried that if we hit a bump or something I would go sailing off behind and crack my head open like a soft-boiled egg. However, it was still fun. No mistake about that.
As for Kip, she got lots and lots and lots of love from me. I brushed her and brushed her, and then I cuddled with her, and Sam and I tried to get her to play catch (that failed), and then I got to wash her! Yay for Kippers!
I want a doggie. :(
